The attention to detail that has been a hallmark of Apple product design was clearly checked at the door of the PR Department when Antenna-gate broke. Now, I have a long list of complaints regarding my iPhone (not the least of which is service interruption issues), however in the case of the new antenna crisis, as frustrating as I find the glitch, hardly rises to the level of grievance this ordeal would suggest. However (can I change that to all CAPS?) HOWEVER, the hubris with which Apple has dismissed the issue and played offense has only magnified the problem many-fold. Steve – please! Advocacy management 101 – Admit the Fault, take responsibility and work diligently towards a fix. Apple is generally way too buttoned-down to have such an engineering hiccup, but they are even more well-oiled (generally) when it comes to message control. Maybe they accidentally left their PR Manual at that beer garden in Redwood City (next to the iPhone prototype). Look for an announcement within days of an “offer” (of sorts).
