In the wake 9/11, the country came together to commemorate the fallen and project a common feeling of hope. Budweiser took to the national stage on one of the biggest advertising days of the year to showcase its love and respect for both New York and the USA. Due to its large crowd and American cultural significance, Super Bowl XXXVI had been declared a National Special Security Event. This created more buzz as well as anxiety.
Budweiser’s ad both comforted and engendered hope within the American public. It featured the brand’s staple clydesdales trekking across the country toward NYC. Upon arrival, the elegant horses stop in front of the NYC skyline and bow deeply to the powerful city. The ad was aired only once because Budweiser executives wanted to emphasize that the ad was made only as a tribute and not for financial gain. We will never forget the tragedy that was 9/11, but more importantly, we will never forget how the American public rose from the ashes and united in solidarity.
God Bless the USA. Never Forget.
